The Start of the 2022 season has not gone to plan for Aston Martin. After entering the sport in 2021, the team promised lots but failed to deliver on them. 2022, their second year in F1 has been more of the same.

Both Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll have suffered from disappointing starts to their seasons. Although, a lot of Vettel’s misfortune has been out of his control, missing out on the first 2 races of the season due to Covid-19. However, it is his teammate Lance Stroll, whose future at the team has been questioned.

Lawrence Stroll to take a call on Lance’s future?

Lance Stroll made his F1 debut in 2017 with Williams. He has since gone on to race for Racing Point and now Aston Martin. Also, it is no secret that his time at Racing Point and Aston Martin have been in his father’s shadow, with Lawrence Stroll leading the consortiums that invested in the two teams.

However, former F1 driver and current television presenter, Johnny Herbert had some strong words about Lance Stroll’s disappointing Azerbaijan GP. He said, “Lance has had a bit of a difficult time off late”. 

He went on to speculate if and when Lawrence Stroll will drop his own son from the team “I sometimes think there is a certain time if it doesn’t happen…Lawrence is going to go, ‘Son I’ve given you a chance…it isn’t quite working out and… got to do what’s right for the team’.” 

Herbert also added, “But it’s down to Lance to do the job that he needs to do…..but at the moment, a little bit scrappy”.

A dismal start to 2022 for the Aston Martin F1 driver

2022 has not started off on the right note for Lance Stroll. the Canadian driver has struggled in the opening rounds of the season. He only has 2 points to his name and sits P17 in the driver standings. Stroll’s poor run of form continued in Azerbaijan as well.

The Aston Martin driver had a weekend to forget on the streets of Baku as he hit the barriers twice in qualifying. To make matters worse, the team had to retire the car in the closing stages due to a vibration issue.

F1 travels to Canada next for Stroll’s home GP. He will hope for a good showing in front of his home fans and look to get his season underway.
