Lance Stroll had upset several behemoths of the motorsport industry by not racing at the Eifel Grand Prix. Jacques Villeneuve grilled his compatriot for missing out on the race for a minor stomach ache. However, little did he know what the young Canadian driver was going through.

Lance Stroll was not on the news very much for the past couple of weeks. Since his absence at Nurburgring, many were unaware of his whereabouts and what had happened to him.

Although Hulkenberg had scored the desired points for Racing Point, there was little information about Stroll Jr. But the clouds seemed to have cleared now with an update from the racer himself.

“On Saturday morning I started to feel unwell and woke up with an upset stomach. I followed the F.I.A protocol and self isolated in my motorhome and did not re-enter the paddock.

“I wasn’t fit to race and flew home early Sunday morning. As I was still feeling under the weather, I took a COVID test on Sunday evening.

“The next day the results came back positive, so I stayed back home and self-isolating for the next 10 days. Luckily, my symptoms were pretty mild,” read the Instagram story of the racer.

Given the amount of backlash he faced for missing out on the Eifel Grand Prix, Lance had to come out and clear the slate. Now that we know what went down, his critics will certainly be praying for his recovery.

His absence gave Nico Hulkenberg yet another opportunity to flex his skills at Nurburgring. Safe to say that Nico is in the good books of several teams now.

As Lance makes his way back to the team for Portimao, the team is eager to get to the grind. Although the COVID virus is infamous for causing lethargy, Lance seems optimistic about stepping into the cockpit.

“I was tested again on Monday this week, and my results were negative. I feel in great shape and I can’t wait to be back with the team and to race in Portugal,” read the update on Instagram.

We wish Lance Stroll a speedy recovery, and neither can we wait for him to race at Portimao. Racing Point will have to be careful, as both their drivers had a close call with the virus.

They cannot afford to lose out on safety in such a manner as Hulkenberg may not b available to bail them out every time. Lance comes back this weekend to defend the P3 that his team has acquired this week. McLaren will push hard, but Lance will be eager to make up for the lost time.
