The youngest and the only American F1 team on the grid, Haas is taking big strides to move up the pecking order. However, they have suffered a fair share of their own disappointment in their short duration. Team principal Guenther Steiner revealed one such instance where he had to replace Nikita Mazepin.
Kevin Magnussen stunned the world a few weeks ago with his outstanding performance in the qualifying of the Brazilian GP. He earned his and Haas F1’s first-ever pole position for the sprint race. His performances have been impressive for the American team since his return to F1.

Guenther Steiner revealed why he chose to bring back Kevin Magnussen after Mazepin’s untimely dismissal from F1. His two former drivers, Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen topped his list to replace the Russian. However, the Italian-American explained what made him choose the Dane over Frenchman, Grosjean.
When asked if he thought of bringing Grosjean back, Guenther said, “Not really because I knew he had a contract, he just signed a contract.”
He also said, “I think it was different [Magnussen’s contract] because Romain moved, he wanted to make a change of life and I got to know Romain over the years pretty well you know. I know he wanted to make a change of life, took all his family to the states, he had a plan for his life.”
He further mentioned, “Kevin is Kevin. He didn’t have a good plan, he was living. So he was enjoying life.” He concluded by stating, “Kevin is much easier. Kevin is more like me, you know.”
Magnussen has certainly justified Steiner’s selection. He scored 25 points this year and finished P13 in the WDC table. The Danish driver also dropped some spectacular performances in the season.
