The certainty of 4 times world champion Sebastian Vettel’s future in Formula 1 seems to be getting bleaker by the day. The 2020 F1 season might probably be the biggest endurance test for Sebastian Vettel as to how much longer he can continue being a part of top tier teams. It could also be his final season in the sport, as a result, of his deteriorating performance and synergy with teammates. This has highly been evident in races such as the 2019 Brazillian Grand Prix where he dramatically collided with teammate Charles Leclerc.

Ecclestone mentioned why there was merely any chance of Vettel signing for Toto’s Mercedes. He said it was highly unlikely as Mercedes has been winning accolades under the Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas duo and that there was no reason as to why they would be replaced. The bottom line of this was that he saw Vettel taking time off as the best possible option for him at the moment.

While Vettel is somewhat of a German master, one needs to realize that age is a vital factor in sports. With the cost cap rules being added in 2021, it is of utmost importance for teams to recruit younger drivers to compensate for the change in dynamics of the sport from largely machine-based to driver-based. All in all, opinions such as that of Ecclestone or of Rosberg should come as no surprise to fans considering this transitioning phase of the sport.
