“Struggled Like Crazy” – Lewis Hamilton Shares Traumatic Childhood Experience Amid “Amazing” Support From Father

Lewis Hamilton is undoubtedly one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time. Currently, one of the highest-paid athletes in the world, the Mercedes star enjoys a lavish lifestyle. However, things were not this good when Hamilton began his journey initially.

During the Mission 44 and The Differenceed workshop in East London, Hamilton shared his experience growing up. The seven-time world champion conveyed how tough his childhood was to the kids he met at the Pupil Referral Unit at Tunmarsh School.

Talking about this, the Silver Arrows ace stated, “I was expelled as a kid and I went through a very difficult time at school. I struggled like crazy at school. People see me on TV and think that it’s all been great.”

There are so many people out there that are struggling and perhaps feel that they’re not smart, lack confidence because of the difficult things and struggles they’re having in class,” further stated the 37-year-old driver.

Lewis Hamilton credits his father for everything he has done

Lewis Hamilton, the man who has 103 race wins under his belt, has always been vocal about his father’s contribution to his career. Anthony Hamilton, father to Hamilton Jr. has supported the Briton by changing his job to earn more money and help his son achieve his dream.

According to reports, Hamilton Sr. worked as an IT manager and then changed his job to work as a contractor to earn more money. Since it was not easy to afford the expenses to keep Hamilton’s racing dream alive, an extra income was just the need of the hour.

During the Mission 44 workshop, Hamilton further asserted, “I wouldn’t be here without my dad. My dad gave me amazing support.” Mission 44 is a charitable foundation launched by Sir Lewis Hamilton to support and empower young people from diverse communities.
