Sometimes Formula 1 can be very cruel and in respect of expressing one’s own opinion, things can go as far as to get flagged. This is exactly what has happened with Hass F1 boss Guenther Steiner, who has been summoned by the Stewards. So what exactly happened that the Italian engineer found himself in this pickle and prompted the fans to become agitated?

The FIA summoned Steiner shortly after the opening of the last practice for the Spanish Grand Prix. This was in response to the Italian engineer’s criticism of the way his driver Nico Hulkenberg‘s incident was handled. Steiner argues that it was unfair for the Stewards at the Monte Carlo race to penalize the German driver for colliding with American rookie Logan Sargeant on the first lap. He contended that Hulkenberg hadn’t truly been the cause of the incident and that the German driver hadn’t attempted to get past the Williams driver.

On Friday, he said in a statement, “It’s like, F1 is one of the biggest sports in the world and we still have laymen deciding on the fate of people that invest millions in their careers.” In response to these remarks, the stewards at the Spanish Grand Prix summoned the outspoken Steiner.

The Italian will be investigated by the FIA for allegedly breaking the international sporting code‘s paragraphs 12.2.1.c, 12.2.1.f, and 12.2.1.k. wherein the Steiner has been summoned to address allegations of “Any fraudulent conduct or any act prejudicial to the interests of any Competition or to the interests of motor sport generally.”

The fans are upset about this since, in their opinion, Steiner has provoked the FIA’s fury by calling for a professional overhaul of Formula One and the official employment of stewards on a full-time basis.

In order to keep an eye out for racing events during each race, the FIA appoints a panel of four stewards. One of them is appointed by the national sporting authority, and the remaining of them are nominated by the FIA. A former F1 driver is frequently spotted among them.

The governing body has employed 16 stewards thus far, and Felix Holter will be replaced by Matthew Selley during the case review of Guenther Steiner. The way the situation played out caused several spectators to lose their composure, and they are now criticizing the FIA’s conduct. In fact, one of them claimed that this “sums up the FIA.” Let’s have a closer look at a few of the responses.
