Renault racer Daniel Ricciardo expressed sadness at the cancellation of this year’s Monaco Grand Prix. The Australian took the chequered flag a the iconic race in 2018 whilst with Red Bull. He will have to wait until 2021 to attempt to win the race in the principality for a second time.

Formula 1 responded to the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic and postponed the first 7 races of the season. The season was supposed to begin at Baku on the first weekend of June.
However, the Azerbaijan GP organizers did not want a repeat of Melbourne and canceled their race for 2020. This is the 3rd race of the season after Australia and Monaco to be canceled

In an Instagram video hosted by Renault, Ricciardo revealed that he watched the onboard footage of Monaco. The Australian said that it was tough to process the news after watching onboard footage from previous years. The decision of Monaco to cancel the Formula 1 race would have upset many other drivers and fans alike. It is one of the hallmarks of the season and will be missing from the Formula 1 calendar for the first time since 1954.
“I don’t know where we are going to be. That one hurt me,” says Ricciardo. The Australian added that postponement and eventual cancelation of his home race hurt as well, “They’re all going to hurt for sure.” He admitted that reality is setting in and is unsure about when Formula 1 will be lights out. However, he using the impromptu break well by keeping fit, spending time with family and farming around at home.
The 2020 Formula 1 season
The season is set to resume in Canada. But fans will not be readying themselves for it. They would first be waiting for an official announcement confirming that the race at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit will move ahead as per schedule.
The fans and racers though can be sure that there will be loads of racing action when the season finally resumes. This is because F1 CEO Chase Carey said that the sport is looking to have at least 15 races this season. Formula 1 certainly seems to be working towards this target as they advanced their traditional summer break to free space later in the season.
They even hinted at a season extending into December. Unfortunately despite all these efforts to squeeze in as many races as possible, Monaco will not feature.
