The Lando Norris of 2020 is a lot different from the rookie driver we saw last year. Despite spending the better part of this year playing sim racing and other online games on his Twitch stream, Norris hasn’t slacked as far as his driving is concerned.

Speaking to ESPN, the 20-year-old revealed that he has made a few changes to the mental side of racing, allowing him to improve his performances.

He said, “The racing side of things was not my strong point. It wasn’t the thing I went into Sunday knowing, ‘I’ve got to do this, I’ve got to do this, and everything will be fine.’ That was the thing I worked on most the whole winter.

“(Last year) I probably would have been more keen to push and try and do better at the start of the race, not seeing the bigger picture. Being in the moment of, ‘I need to catch this guy what’s my next thing? Do I save my tires? Do I go a two-stop?’

“Thinking about these things which last year I wouldn’t have done. (I) wouldn’t have thought what to do in this scenario or maximizing a scenario I’m in.”

Norris also says that he has worked on being patient when making an overtake. All this has helped him gain much more confidence when he is out on the track racing.

However, he doesn’t claim to be a know-it-all and stressed on the fact that he still has quite some work to do in order to become the perfect racer.

Heading to Silverstone, Norris will be hoping to continue the kind of form he showcased in Austria. This will be Lando’s 2nd home Grand Prix.

Having finished the previous one outside the points, he’ll be hoping to make up for that with a podium finish this time around.

It won’t be an easy ask, considering he’ll have to battle it out against the likes of Red Bull and Racing Point, but expect Norris to give it nothing less than 100%.
