The F1 silly season is slowly but surely gathering speed. After a mega week at Alpine on the managerial front, the focus has shifted to Ferrari. Ferrari men Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc are both out of contract at the end of the 2024 season. Leclerc has been donning the red suit since the start of the 2019 season. This lengthy association has gotten the Monegasque respect as well from his team, and even though no one would agree to it, a sense of priority as well.

Team orders for Carlos Sainz in the last few races can attest to that. However, for Ferrari, both their drivers and their future is important. Although, according to the fans the level of importance is definitely variable and this is exactly why they are mocking Sainz for his ambitious approach.

To put things in perspective, as reported by Funo Analisi Tecnica, Ferrari is negotiating a contract extension with both drivers. According to the report, Leclerc is close to signing a 2+3 year contract. The details are not public but the understanding is Leclerc will weigh his options again after the first year of the 2026 regulations. Smart move according to many.

However, what the Tifosi don’t agree with is Sainz’s attempt to demand the same contract terms. The Tifosi is enraged at Sainz’s audacity for demanding the same level of longevity from the contract without the loyalty bonus.

The Tifosi is an extremely loyal fanbase and one of the most hard to please. Over time, Leclerc has earned a place in their hearts as he has showcased time and again his loyalty toward Ferrari. The Monegasque deserves everything he gets at Ferrari and more. However, for a driver, who has been a part of the Scuderia for only two years, to think they can demand the same level of commitment from the team as Leclerc is absurd. This is exactly what is enraging the Tifosi.

Now, no one can’t comment on the quality of the two drivers as it’s a debatable topic. However, many still put Leclerc ahead of Sainz.
