There are 9 days still before we start racing again, but the wheels are already turning. The 2023 F1 championship season is officially underway, starting with the three-day pre-season testing in Bahrain. However, despite watching most of the drivers take on the Bahrain track, the fans found the best bit of the pre-season testing away from the tarmac. More specifically, it was in the Sky Sports commentary box and at the expense of commentary veteran David Croft (Crofty).

The British TV broadcaster is the lead commentator for Sky Sports’ Formula 1 coverage. Crofty has had this position since 2012 and he has been doing an excellent job. But like every human being in the world, Crofty has made some mistakes, like his slip of tongue, while referring to Nico Rosberg. Still, on most occasions, the commentary that comes out of Croft’s mouth is poetic.

The British commentator has become a household voice, especially for Formula 1 fans. This is exactly why Anthony Davidson’s, another sky commentator, hilarious mockery of Crofty, became the talk of the town among the fans.

Davidson, during day one of testing, decided to do a Crofty impression on live TV. The clip is going viral on Twitter. In the clip, Davidson, mockingly said, “‘Its lights out and away we go. Oh, it’s the AlphaTauri or alpha whatever it’s called into turn 1. It’s a big lockout and it’s a crash, it’s a crash!’ Is that any better?”

Even a blushing Crofty admitted, “That was spot on!” after Davidson’s bit.

After getting validation for his first bit of impression Davidson decided to humor the fans a little more. Putting Lewis Hamilton into focus, in Crofty’s voice, he said, “And Lewis Hamilton crosses the line with the chequered flag out.”

The impression of Crofty was so funny, the entire commentary box, including Martin Brundle, could not help control their laughter. The fans had the same reaction to the impression.

One fan even labelled the impression as, “Best bit from #F1Testing so far..”
