Being an F1 driver, life is never easy. The sport is incredibly demanding, not only the physical aspect of it, but the mental aspect as well. However, this year, due to the pandemic, the case is even more so. Even the most successful driver, Lewis Hamilton, is feeling the after effects.

Drivers have had to spend a lot longer on the road, away from home. They have been living in enclosed ‘bubbles,’ as they race in different countries during an incredibly tight calendar.

Due to the dreaded virus, even outings are very much limited and in some cases not even permitted. So that does tend to leave oneself with their thoughts more often than not. In fact, it has got even Hamilton thinking of his homeland.

The 6-times world champion took to Instagram, putting out a heartfelt story on how much he misses England.

His post read, “This year I’ve missed England more than any year since I’ve live aboard (lived abroad).

“I never miss the cold or grey skies. But the countryside, the trees, cars driving on the right side of the road lol, the little villages I used to drive through, Buckingham palace where I’ve always wanted to live (kidding, that’s a line from the movie cool runnings),” are all what Lewis longs for.

Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton gets in the patriotic spirit

After reminiscing about England and all that he misses considering he now resides in Monaco, Hamilton reaffirmed just how much it means for an F1 driver to represent one’s country at the pinnacle of the sport.

He adds, “Anyway, I’m so proud to stand and represent the British flag all around the world. And I’m so grateful to those who support me.

“The greatest honor an athlete gets is to stand and lift the flag of their nation. I will continue to do so for as long as I can.”

The last line that Hamilton wrote could dispel the doubts of many over his F1 future. Following the race at Imola, Hamilton had given a rather cryptic interview, suggesting that his presence on the grid next year could not be guaranteed.

This post could perhaps calm people down and let them know that he intends to race on and hopefully break Michael Schumacher’s record.
