The Belgian GP was one for the books. So short, yet so long at the same time. However, in the two laps of racing behind the safety car, something odd happened. The scoreboard lit purple as Nikita Mazepin made the fastest lap.

Soon after the race start the red flag was called; the track was too wet for a proper race. As Masi called the race restart off, in an unexpected realization, Mazepin goes home with the fastest lap. He doesn’t get the point though, finishing the race in P17 but still holds bragging rights for the achievement.

Happy nonetheless, Haas F1 posted a rare picture of a happy Russian with the addition of the Rolex Fastest Lap Award tag.

A Williams on the podium and a Haas with the fastest lap, the second half cannot get any crazier. As expected, Twitter had a field day.

Team Principal Guenther Steiner wasn’t too sure it will make a difference. Steiner said, “It’s a homologated chassis. So it will be very similar… But performance-wise, I mean, we will see if there is a difference.”

Steiner argued that they will only see the effects of the change on the track. Since there wasn’t much of a race at Spa, it’s unsure if the pace was because of the chassis or because other drivers were driving extremely cautiously.

Either way, it’s a Maze-win for Nikita, especially in his rookie season. As the internet takes over the Belgian GP, without a doubt, the Nikita Mazepin memes will come rolling in. The streets will never forget- at least for now.
