The F1 silly season does not seem to be taking a break. There is constant talk of transfers and new contracts, from drivers to engineers and backroom staff. It’s the drivers though that take the most attention with atrociously high salaried contrast and Charles Leclerc was among those recently. Right before the end of summer break, Leclerc was reportedly offered a mega $215 million contract spread across five years after his current contract expires in 2024. These numbers would make Leclerc one of the highest earners on the grid. However, Leclerc’s recent confession highlights Ferrari’s dirty tactics.

Despite Leclerc’s desire to make this $215 million dream deal a reality, the truth is completely different. As per his latest comments, as quoted by Formula Passion, there is no contract, there is no deal and there are no plans of extension as of now.

There’s no hurry. The priorities are different. We are working hard to get back to winning soon. Discussions about my future can be postponed to the end of the year,” said Leclerc.

Now, we are not sure if Ferrari wanted to fend off the competition with these rumors or if they are not serious about their no. 1 driver. Regardless of the situation, Leclerc’s comments showcase Ferrari’s dirty tactics toward a driver who loves the Italian outfit with all his heart.

Regardless of the non-existent dream contract, there is still plenty of time for Leclerc to discuss his future. Time he should take before he commits his future to a team that might be wasting his talents.

F1 veteran tore Ferrari to shreds for wasting the potential of Charles Leclerc

Ferrari has not been close to winning a race apart from the start of the 2022 season. This downfall has been made worse with the rest of the grid improving. The Italian team’s constant strategic errors have not helped their case either.

These constant errors have earned Ferrari a lot of criticism for wasting the supreme talent of Leclerc. F1 expert Peter Windsor put these thoughts into words during his YouTube sessions.

Windsor said, “I think that’s absolutely right. I think he does have Max’s Royal Talent. Because of the situation he’s been in and his career is not on track, Max is Max’s career is on track. Max knows what he’s doing every day and how good his car is going to be and what. He has to think of next to get the best from it and from him whereas as I’ve said before, you know Charles has to think of a million things or does think of a million things apart from his driving, which is you know.”

We can’t help but agree with Windsor, as the Italian team has more often than not ruined a race for Leclerc, be it strategy or unreliability. Let’s hope they can make the most of Leclerc’s potential before it’s too late.
