Pierre Gasly is desperate for a second attempt to drive for a top team in Formula One. He was earlier given the opportunity by Red Bull to showcase his skills behind the wheel at the start of the 2019 season.

But the French driver could not cope with the pressure and the demands of being a teammate to Max Verstappen. He was eventually dropped in the middle of the season by the Austrian team because of his inconsistent performance. Since then, he has impressed everyone with his speed on the track with AlphaTauri.

However, he hopes he will get his second shot with Red Bull in the future. The Australian team currently has a driver pairing of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, which is serving them well. But Pierre is confident that his 2.0 version is better than the 2019 version.

Pierre Gasly reflects on his chances of reclaiming the Red Bull seat

Since being dropped by Red Bull in mid-2019, Gasly has finished on the podium thrice in three seasons. He even won the Italian Grand Prix in 2020 with AlphaTauri to showcase his growth as a driver. But now he is really craving another chance at a top team and claims he is ready for the opportunity.

“I think I’ve always said, at the moment, my priority is to discuss with [Red Bull] and they will always have the priority over others. Because I’m very grateful for everything they’ve done in my career and I’m aware that I’d never be here without the support of Helmut and Red Bull over these past years,” said the AlphaTauri driver.

“I’ve told [Helmut] last time that actually this is the longest relationship I’ve ever had in my life, you know? Nine years with Red Bull. It’s been eight-and-a-half years of success, fighting for all the best positions, having a very, very successful ride together. There were the six months that didn’t work out for the reasons that we know,” said the French driver.

There is an opportunity for Gasly to get a second shot at a Red Bull drive next season; there might be some change in the driver’s lineup for the team as Sergio Perez’s contract will expire at the end of the 2022 season.

It is indeed a bit difficult for the AlphaTauri driver to get back into the Red Bull team. But hopefully, he can continue to perform consistently and send a statement to Marko to rekindle Red Bull’s lost belief in him.
