Mercedes‘ saga in the sport is the stuff of legends. From the very beginning of the turbo-hybrid era of Formula 1, the team from Brackley has won eight consecutive Constructors’ championships till 2021. And on their way, they also gave Lewis Hamilton 6 world titles. Safe to say, all of this wasn’t just a stroke of luck. Deliberate efforts went on behind the scenes to ensure success. However, getting a group of people motivated enough for so long without letting complacency kick in is no mean feat. Now, the 7x Champion has revealed the person behind it all.

Calling Toto Wolff a visionary would be a massive understatement. The Austrian businessman has revolutionized how an F1 team can be run to maximize its performance on track and its profitability off of it. That being said, according to Hamilton, there’s one specific trait that helps Wolff do this.

I don’t know of any other leaders, at least among those I’ve worked with, who go and say, ‘Hey, how are things at home? How can I help you, so that you have more time with your wife, husband or partner, children, so that you come to work and are happier and want to try harder?”

The Guardian quoted Wolff saying, “For me knowing him for 10 years from a personal side, he was exceptional. Better than all the performances in the car, his attitude and mindset this year was outstanding. He has held us up at times, kept the energy level up when it was down even on days where it was difficult for him.”
