McLaren fans are still recovering from Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo’s more than underwhelming performance at the Bahrain GP. The British team, who expected to be a title contender this year, was left dueling with cars at the back of the grid. As Zak Brown and Co. try to figure out what exactly went wrong, it might’ve been too late for them to catch up with the leaders who are far ahead.

Mclaren’s Lando Norris is not very hopeful

Although McLaren did not have a great testing, practice, or qualifying at Bahrain, fans were positive of a comeback. Sadly, Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo could not even make it to the top 10. Additionally, now one team member has claimed how this performance could carry on for some time. Speaking to a reporter, 22-year-old Lando Norris said“Of course it’s been a tough start to the season. I’m sure the worse it felt, the worse it looked from the outside.”

“Simply put, this is where we are right now. Now we’ll have to get used to it. In the past seasons, everybody expected big things from us, but we didn’t make the right choices.”

Can the Mercedes power units be the main issue?

“Now we’ll have to get used to it” were not the words we were expecting to hear from a team that finished 4th in the Constructors’ table in 2021. Hyped to be even better in 2022, the Woking team has shocked everyone with a pace that will not even land them in midfield. Notably, every Mercedes-powered car was struggling at the bottom 6, including the McLaren.

Though Lando revealed the Power units have not helped, he also clarified that downforce is the major issue. He further revealed, “It’s just our car. We’re way behind in downforce, so the ride and feel are very mediocre.”

On the other hand, rival Ferrari has really lived up to the hype. Their power units have awarded both them and the American team, Haas, some good points in the season opener. While Ferrari managed a 1-2 finish on the podium, Haas’ Kevin Magnussen took P5.

McLaren, who expected to produce a similar result, were actually miles behind Ferrari’s pace. Though the team has failed miserably in trying to achieve their objectives, fans still wish to see them fight and make a comeback at some point.
