Red Bull has laid out an incredible structure for their demand for young talented drivers in Formula 1. Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo, and Max Verstappen are prime examples of the AlphaTauri academy. However, ever since 2016, the academy is yet to produce a driver of Verstappen’s caliber since. Yuki Tsunoda burst into the scene at a young age, as Verstappen’s eventual successor. However, the Japanese driver has lived up to the expectations so far. In fact, his recent statements will further damage his chances.

The AlphaTauri man ran an impressive race on his debut, finishing in points in 2021, and became an overnight sensation. However, from his debut to his race in Australia in 2023, a lot has changed. Especially the perspective of the fans regarding the Japanese driver and not in a positive sense. Tsunoda made things worse for himself with his comments after the race in Australia, as quoted by Motorsport.

Tsunoda criticized the pace of the AT04 despite his 10th-place finish. Heading to Baku, a street circuit with the longest straight in the calendar, he communicated his concern. “It will be crazy,” he said. “But at same time today, I just had a massive drag on the straight, and straightline speed was horrible.”

However, for this specific concern, Tsunoda also gave a solution. He said, “So in Baku, we need at least no wing or something like that to maximise straightline speed.”
