Charles Leclerc brought his car home at P4 at the dramatic Italian GP. Throughout the race, the Monegasque driver was battling for places with the likes of Valtteri Bottas, Sergio Perez, and Lando Norris. Eventually, the Ferrari driver finished just 2.3 seconds off the podium places.

And despite having nine pole positions, two wins, including one at Monza, and 11 further podiums to his name, Charles Leclerc has rated his 2021 Italian GP performance as one of his best races in F1.

What did Charles Leclerc say?
“I gave it all, really everything and there was not much more to do today,” said Charles Leclerc after the race.
“I mean every opportunities there were I tried to take it every time as soon as Valtteri passed me, I tried to overtake him again, and I succeeded, but then they were just too quick.”

In addition, the Monegasque driver rated his 2021 Italian Grand Prix performance as one of his best races in Formula 1.

“On my own performance, it’s honestly I rate it as my top five performances in Formula One,” told Leclerc.

“I really feel like I’ve given absolutely everything. So, on that I’m happy but we need to keep working to be fighting for the win very soon.”
Big step forward for Ferrari: Leclerc
Scuderia Ferrari had a disastrous home race last season when both of their cars were retired from the 2020 Italian GP. Former Ferrari driver, Sebastian Vettel, suffered a brake failure on lap six. On the other hand, Leclerc crashed heavily on the Parabolica corner.

Although this year Maranello-based team drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz finished strong at P4 and P6, respectively. Meanwhile, the Monegasque driver believes Scuderia Ferrari has made a big step forward this year.
“It made us very vulnerable to overtaking, so it was very difficult for us to overtake but very easy to get overtaken so not the easiest of the race,” said Leclerc.

“But at the end, if you look where we were last year if and where we are now, it is a big step forward, so we need to keep working like this.”
