Toto Wolff Believes Andretti Entry Will ‘Dilute’ F1

Michael Andretti is really pushing to launch his F1 team in 2024. The former F1 driver is in process of gaining approval from the FIA to have a team at the pinnacle of motorsport. But Michael mentioned that he’s getting strong opposition in F1 from the likes of Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff.

Wolff is unsure what the American would bring to the sport by launching his own team. He mentioned that he is clear that the Andretti F1 team would bring any value to the sport.

Michael Andretti gives his take on Toto Wolff and his concerns

As reported by Express. co. UK, Michael mentioned that his father Mario Andretti has been trying to reach the Austrian to you have a conversation. But the Mercedes team boss is not showing any interest in picking up his calls.

“Toto’s going out there, ‘what do you bring to the table?’ I think we bring a lot, and I think we’ll bring a lot more than what we’ll be diluting. That’s our case. The American market is still untapped, but obviously, with the Netflix series, that’s really brought a lot of popularity.”

“I believe we can bring more longevity to the Netflix series to have a real American team with an American driver. I believe with our brand, I think it could keep a lot of interest going for a lot more years,” said Andretti.

Wolff has shared his apprehensions and is skeptical of the entry of Andretti’s name in F1. “Andretti is a [significant] name, for sure, and the American market is important. Every team that is joining needs to add value,” said Wolff.

It would be interesting to see if the Mercedes team boss is actually interested in having talks with Andretti in the future or not. But hopefully, he will warm up to the idea of having a new American team in the sport.
