Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff has lashed out at Netflix documentary series ‘Drive to Survive’ ahead of the release of the new season. The show which has gained popularity across the globe will return on 11 March, a week before the new season.

However, Wolff, who will feature heavily in the new season, believes that the show reproduces scenes that do not correspond to the reality of the facts. Speaking to Irish Independent he said, “I’m watching this – episode one, episode two – and I hate it.

He later added, “It’s scary how much we let them in. You hate to see yourself in there. They create a spin to the narrative. They put scenes together that didn’t happen. I guess you’d say as an insider, well, that’s different than how it was. But we’re creating entertainment, and that is a new dimension of entertainment.”

Season 4 will heavily include the Championship battle between Verstappen and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton. The duo fought throughout 2021, which resulted in one of the most dramatic finishes in F1 history.

Despite winning their 8th successive Constructors’ Championship, the Silver Arrows will be eagerly awaiting a chance to reclaim the Drivers’ title. Hamilton, meanwhile, returns after the controversial ending to the 2021 season. His partnership with new teammate George Russell could be crucial to a record-breaking 8th title.

After a major change in regulations coming into play in 2022, the onus is on Wolff and his team to get the ground running. The first pre-season testing in Barcelona indicated that Mercedes were among the quickest teams, with a possibility of new contenders.

However, the team is bringing major upgrades to the testing in Bahrain. The battle between Mercedes and Red Bull will be renewed at the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 20.

Will we see Hamilton and Mercedes continue their dominance in the new era? Will we see the likes of Ferrari and McLaren turn up in 2022? We will have to wait and find out!
