Sebastian Vettel had an absolute stinker of a season in 2020. Incidentally, that was his last season with Ferrari, the team of his dreams whom he joined with the intention of winning world titles. Alas, that never came close to happening, Mercedes were just too strong for any team to contend with.

The German has now packed his bags and moved to Aston Martin F1, who recently teased fans by depicting the German in his racing gear. The iconic British brand themselves are just returning to the sport after a 60-year-long hiatus.

However, the team is just a makeover of Racing Point. As such, the Aston Martin car will be powered by a Mercedes engine and will use last year’s highly impressive chassis.

Moving to a new team, fans have high hopes that Vettel will rediscover his form. At Ferrari, Vettel’s performances plateaued and then took a massive dip last year. There are cynics who believe that the 4-time World Champion’s time in the sport is up.

But interestingly, Ferrari’s greatest adversary, Mercedes, still have faith in Vettel, or at least the team boss Toto Wolff does.

He said (translated vis Google), “I hope he gets off to a good start. Sebastian needed one thing above all: a change of scenery. If you get more and more into a negative spiral in your team, then you have to bring about a change.

“He did that. He is now in a completely different environment. That’s why I expect a lot from Sebastian.”

Wolff reflects on Sebastian Vettel’s stint at Ferrari

While many consider the German’s stint with Ferrari to be a bust, Wolff doesn’t think that was the case. The Austrian said, “I don’t think he didn’t deliver, it was the general conditions that got worse and worse.”

Ferrari were never able to give Sebastian a championship-winning car. And the stats do reflect the fact that Vettel indeed did very well with what he was given.

Last season aside, the ex-Red Bull star has won 14 races and 55 podiums for the Scuderia. He is the team’s third-highest race winner in F1 history.

At Aston Martin, Vettel would want to reignite his career and show the world that he still is one of the best drivers on the grid. In a stacked mid-field, his job won’t be easy. But expect his championship-winning prowess to aid him in coming good.
