What happens when a famous celebrity chef decides to pair up with the team principal of an eight-time World Constructors’ champion? Complete pandemonium, of course. Gordon Ramsay, renowned for his shows “Hell’s Kitchen” and “Kitchen Nightmares,” paired up with Toto Wolff to take a $157,000 Mercedes AMG-GTR for a Pirelli Hot Lap around the Las Vegas Street Circuit during the inaugural Las Vegas GP weekend.

With the circuit being freshly prepared, Wolff was as foreign to the streets and turns of Las Vegas as Gordon Ramsay himself. What did that lead to? Gordon Ramsay getting the fright of his lifetime. At the end of the lap, Ramsay was on his knees, unable to stomach the adrenaline pumping through his veins. This is not to say that the celebrity chef didn’t enjoy it. If the video of the Hot Lap was anything to go by, he absolutely loved everything about the lap.

As the two started the lap, Wolff funnily asked Ramsay what the fastest he’d ever driven (or, in this case, been driven) on the Las Vegas Strip. With the celebrity chef not being a race driver, he’d never gone as fast on the Strip as he did with the Mercedes boss. As the signs of unease slightly set on Ramsay, Toto Wolff dropped a bombshell.

“The problem is, I just started driving here, so I don’t know where the corners are,” said the Austrian team principal, much to the horror of Gordon Ramsay. Apart from a lot of expletives, Ramsay could only exclaim, “Jesus Christ almighty,” in the midst of it all. The moment the lap was over, the Brit almost fell flat on the ground and humorously asked, “Is he trying to f***ing kill us?”

Once the blood started pumping and Ramsay got out of the initial rush from the fast lap, he finally found his words again. He thanked Pirelli, F1, Mercedes, and Toto Wolff for this incredible experience. “Thank you. Incredible. Thank you so much. Extraordinary performance. Thank you so much for doing this.”

It wasn’t just Gordon Ramsay who got to experience these Hot Laps during this season. A bunch of fans got to do so as well.

F1’s Hot Laps throughout the season

This initiative of Hot Laps was prevalent across races this season and was sponsored by F1’s tire manufacturer Pirelli. There were a handful of other races this season, which saw fans with VIP tickets get into a car with drivers and team personnel from the different teams for fast laps.

Pirelli partnered with McLaren, Aston Martin, and Mercedes to provide this experience across 10 race weekends. Naturally, this attracted both fans and celebrities to take a spin around the different circuits, just like Gordon Ramsay. However, not all of them were driven around by team principals like Toto Wolff.
