George Russell missed out on a points finish by a whisker, crossing the line in 11th at the Tuscan Grand Prix. He was fighting for 10th against Sebastian Vettel following the final restart until the end of the race.

After the race, Vettel offered some positive feedback with respect to Russell’s race. Russell later took to Twitter to thank Vettel for his considerate words.

The Tuscan Grand Prix brought Williams another day that was so close yet so far as they saw George Russell finish the race in 11th. The final restart saw the young Briton falling down the order to dead last from a respectable P8 like a rock. He fought back, yet could manage only a P11 finish.

Sebastian Vettel, who had Russell in his rear-view mirror during the dying moments of the race, had to push a lot to keep the determined youngster at bay.

I feel a bit sorry to be honest for him because I think he drove really well. Especially before the last restart, he was faster than us, he was more consistent,” said the German.

He managed his race well, I could see what he was doing. So yeah, it will come for him but poor soul he really deserved a point today,” said Vettel.

Russell was lapping as fast as the Ferrari during most part of the race. In fact, there was a silver lining to Russel’s performance at Tuscany after all. Despite most of the action taking place at the back of the grid, Russell remained out of trouble and managed to bring his car home in one piece.

George Russell took to Twitter to thank Sebastian Vettel for acknowledging his struggle. Sebastian assured that Russell will get more chances to score points in this season.
