Twitter Explodes as Hamilton-Norris F1 Battle Reaches Dramatic Conclusion at Russian GP

The Sochi Autodrom just blew away all allegations of being a boring track to race at by providing us with the spectacular 2021 Russian GP. F1 has shown us once more how ruthless it can be, and how a daydream can turn into a nightmare within just five laps. And we can’t help but sit in agony and disbelief, as Lando Norris, chasing his first-ever Grand Prix victory, had the win snatched away from him in the last few laps.

The culprits? Weather, inexperience, and a that which went wrong.

And it’s not just us, the whole of F1 twitter is taking their time to accept what has just happened, and their reactions say it all.

Twitter goes crazy Hamilton snatches the Russian GP victory from Norris

To put things into perspective, Lando Norris, in a McLaren, was chasing his first-ever Grand Prix victory. Had he won the race, he would have been the third-youngest driver ever to win a Grand Prix. And he was being chased down by the seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton in a Mercedes, who was, in turn, chasing his 100 GP win.

Lando was doing an immense job of defending his position and keeping Lewis at bay. With 5 laps left, it started raining, and the drivers couldn’t find any grip at all. Most of the drivers started pitting for the intermediate tires; Lando and Hamilton were stuck in a dilemma of whether they should pit.

Finally, Hamilton did pit, and Lando decided to risk it and stay out; this turned out to be the wrong decision in the end, and he lost control and spun out of the track, handing the Russian GP victory to Lewis Hamilton.

In other news

The rain and the subsequent Lando fiasco meant that Max Verstappen, even after starting last and being in the midfield for the whole race, managed to finish P2.

Just before the beginning of the race, Mercedes decided to take a new engine for Bottas and put him at the back of the grid. Speculations say this move was done to hold off Verstappen and help Lewis get more points.
