British star Lando Norris has started his preparations for the 2022 F1 season. The duo of Norris and Ricciardo produced some brilliant performances for McLaren in 2021, the former more often than the latter. Norris particularly had an exceptional first half of the 2021 F1 season with podiums in Imola, Monaco, and Austria. However, the second half saw a series of borderline-points finishes with one exception, the famous 1-2 finish at Monza.
Norris has been a part of the Woking-based team since 2017, where he enrolled as a junior driver. He finally got his first breakthrough in the 2019 Austrian GP when he made his first race start for McLaren alongside Carlos Sainz. After a series of impressive performances in his debut season, Mclaren offered him a multi-year deal.
Many gave him the tag of “inexperienced driver” when he failed to maneuver top results. However, Norris took some big strides in 2021 to prove his worthiness as a mature driver. Constantly outpacing veteran teammate Daniel Ricciardo is a clear step in that direction. Though he respects the value of experience, Norris doesn’t want to use this as an excuse.

Hate to use ‘lack of experience’ excuse: Lando Norris
Norris has made his intention with McLaren very clear frequently in the past. He aims at winning races and being an F1 world champion with the Woking-based team in the future. Now, 3 seasons and 60 Grand Prix later, he is looking to capitalize on his learnings so far.
In a recent interview reported by Motorsport.com, Norris shared his opinion on a series of things, one was using his inexperience as a shield to defend his failures.
“I hate to use the ‘lack of experience’ excuse all the time. ‘I’m just not experienced enough’ sounds like an easy excuse, and I hate to say it,” said Norris.
“I don’t like to say it and I don’t believe it would make much difference to go through the winter and come back knowing things a little better. But at the same time, it’s hard for me to know the change over the years as I haven’t competed in more than one season in any category since I started.”
“I’m very happy with the improvement I’ve made with regard to the weak areas that I worked on last season. I think I was able to make some of these my strengths. I still have to work on some of them, but I think we did a much better job overall,” added the young Brit.

Moreover, he believes it was small things that cost them in 2021, that they can avoid in the future. Norris admits he was not good enough in a few races, but that doesn’t put him out, as he never had big crashes. With days left before the pre-season testing, excitement among fans is increasing with every passing day.
