A turbulent and disappointing season looms over Mercedes. A troubled W14 has already been ruled out as a championship challenger, and the focus has shifted toward creating a better car for next year. But for the die-hard fans of the team, things and situations appear to be taken lightly.

Recently, Mercedes uploaded a video of George Russell blowing off some steam as he reacted to the photoshopped memes of himself, emerging from his signature pose from the 2023 drivers’ introduction video. While many just take it lightly as a change of pace and a part of media duties, it angered several fans who didn’t like the team enjoying itself as their struggles on the field continue to pile up weekend after weekend.

George Russell, as well as the team, were chastised for their extracurricular activities. An innocent activity was rejected, as few of the fans urged the team to be more serious. However, we do believe they are essential to keep things going and keep morale high. But many fans surely appear to disagree with us as they lambasted and drew the parallels of sinking performance and fun on social media to those of McLaren’s shenanigans.

George Russell and the team called out for relaxing

The races so far have been held with a week off in between, giving the teams essential time to build and deploy upgrades to their cars before the circus approaches Australia. Thus, this weekend was taken by the drivers to spend time doing their media duties and helping their social media game. We’re guessing that didn’t sit well with fans of all those struggling teams.

Kudos to George Russell for being a good sport while reacting to the memes. Since his debut at Mercedes, the driver has shown nothing but class, both on and off the track. Yet, this didn’t save him from scathing criticism.

The template that emerged from the video was by far one of the best to emerge from F1. Behold your cups, as we can sense it is bound to return soon in one form or another.
