Valtteri Bottas took a step down when he vacated the Mercedes seat to join Alfa Romeo. It would’ve been safe to assume that a team like Alfa Romeo would never battle with the likes of Mercedes. However, that has not been the case considering the first two Sunday outings from the Silver arrows. Mercedes has been down on its luck, and they have yet to show signs of being a top-tier team. This situation with his former team has made Valtteri feel a bit “weird”.

It’s Valtteri Bottas’ time to shine!

Valtteri Bottas was a consistent driver for Mercedes over the years. Although, his contribution was always overshadowed by Lewis Hamilton. But who can blame him? It’s difficult being the teammate of a 7-time world champion.

The switch to Alfa Romeo is probably the best move Bottas could’ve made for his career. While talking to Planet F1 about the new dynamic, Bottas said, “It’s also nice to be able to battle with them.” 

He continued, “I think this was kind of the best-case-scenario for our first season together I could ever imagine, with the information I had.”

Now the senior driver at Alfa Romeo no longer needs to give up his position for anyone. And the Finn can now showcase all his racing prowess to the world. So can we say that Valtteri’s time to shine is finally here? Well, not quite.

New car, new problems!

Like Mercedes, the start to the 2022 season hasn’t been smooth sailing for Alfa Romeo. Both Bottas and Zhou managed to finish within points in Bahrain. But the problems caught up with the team at the Saudi Arabian GP, where Bottas couldn’t finish and Zhou finished at P11.

As things stand, Alfa Romeo C42 is a quick car, but only if the team can sort out all its issues. And who knows? Maybe we will see some exciting races between Bottas and Lewis for the first time in a long time!
