The struggles of Ferrari is no new news around the circuit. The Italian side is struggling from the start of the season and there seems to be no end of it. The rough patch is not merely due to some technical issues. The issues lie deep within the team and the principles followed. Even though they are directing their concern with the technicalities, no mention of the other issues has been attested.

Former World Champion and veteran racer, Jacques Villeneuve takes a dig at Ferrari and addresses the unaddressed issues. The technical team of Ferrari is weak as compared to that of Mercedes. However, it is shocking as the ones upon whose back Mercedes is riding the waves of success once belonged to the Ferrari team. The team’s directive to generate an all Italian unit is one of the major causes of the downfall.

“Ferrari could have been the Mercedes of today, but they let go of so many talented engineers,” Villeneuve is quoted as having told Sky Italia.

“Most of all because they were not Italian. And they all ended up there, on the other side.

The former Williams driver anticipates almost a time span of a few years for Ferrari to regain its form. Beyond technicalities, Ferrari must focus upon bringing back the best people in their garage.

“The team is facing extremely difficult times and it will take a lot for them to rise again. Maybe it will take at least two years. The most important thing is to get the best people on the team, regardless of their costs. The problem is not the fact that they are not winning but that they are so far behind technically.”

Winning 6 consecutive double World Championship proves the one-sided domination Mercedes holds currently. On the other hand, Ferrari has made its struggle with the primary aims and objectives. While the Silver Arrows aim for repeating their performance for the win, the Prancing Stallions aim for not repeating their errors.

Comparing the performance of these two constructors, we get the big picture. The Italian side needs a major upheaval to compete on the highest level with Mercedes. Also, the concept of an all Italian team must be dropped as soon as possible. Else instead of talking about podium finishes, will have to continue talking about the mistakes in the race.
