‘Wants His Father to Be Proud of Him’ – Steiner Praises Mick Schumacher’s Determination

Last season’s F2 world champion Mick Schumacher has found out the hard way just how challenging F1 can be. He has started his career in the pinnacle of motorsports with back-to-back P16 finishes. However, it’s unfair to pin the blame solely on him considering he is driving what seems to be the worst car on the grid. Nevertheless, despite his current situation with a team at the bottom of the table, Mick’s desire to be a world champion still burns strongly in him.
Haas team boss Guenther Steiner spoke glowingly about his German driver, and not for the first time. He talked about the amount of work Mick has been putting in behind the scenes with the determination to make his father, Michael Schumacher, proud.
The Haas team principal said (translated by Google), “He is very hardworking and focused. It’s nice to see that he really wants it. Mick doesn’t just do it because his father was seven times world champion. He wants to become world champion himself. And he works hard for it.

“He doesn’t just take advantage of his name just to be there. He wants his father to be proud of him.”
Schumacher Jr‘s journey into the crazy world of F1 has only begun. And while he may get his opportunity to mix it up at the front of the grid a few years down the line, for now, he’ll have to be content with learning the ropes the hard way.
Is a points finish possible for Mick Schumacher in Portugal?

The realistic and most likely answer would be no. However, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. F1 can often spring up big surprises and maybe if Mick can keep the car on the track and get a bit lucky with other drivers suffering DNFs, then who knows? He might just be able to steal a point.
But he’ll only have quite modest expectations going into the race. His main focus would be to beat his teammate Nikita Mazepin, anything more than that could be seen as a bonus for him and the team.
