Charles Leclerc blames Sainz prioritizing

Leclerc’s teammate, Carlos Sainz began and finished the sprint race ahead of his Scuderia teammate. And this is exactly what led to his miseries according to Leclerc. After giving the silent treatment to his engineer, Xavi, over the radio, he ranted later to the media.

The Monegasque racing ace was quoted as saying, “Unfortunately yes. since Carlos [Sainz] was in front he had priority, I was a passenger of that. I had to do a lap on extreme’s [wets] and it was not the optimal tire in that moment.”

To make it even worse, he suffered from an agonizingly slow pitstop that added to his misery. “Then we had a problem at the pits which I don’t know yet what it was,” concluded Leclerc.

While Leclerc’s race was a tad bit compromised by being left out on an unsuitable tire for an entire lap around the massive Spa-Francorchamps circuit, what ensued later in the pitlane was a mess of Ferrari’s own making.

Leclerc continued, “That made us lose 2-3 positions… yeah it was not a sprint where we maximized everything, we need to work on that. Because when we don’t have the pace to do great things, we need to optimize.”
