The Italian team experienced several mishaps throughout the weekend. Championship leader Charles Leclerc, lost a massive chunk of his lead this weekend due to a miscalculated move.

Charles Leclerc makes a mistake that sees him tumble down the order

The weekend in Imola was one with mixed emotions for the Tifosi. A P2 in the sprint race was the highest point. However, there were multiple lows, including two Carlos Sainz crashes and, most importantly, a Charles Leclerc mishap while chasing second, that saw him fall down the order.

The Monegasque made a mistake while chasing Sergio Perez for second place on lap 54 of the race saw him spin out and tap the barriers. Following a trip to the pit to get fresh rubber and a new front wing, he returned to track.

Leclerc, however straightaway, felt something was off and complained about his car saying, “doesn’t feel great”. However, the team gave him the green light, letting him know his car was okay. He then quickly chased down Kevin Magnussen, Sebastian Vettel, and Yuki Tsunoda to finish P6.

Max Verstappen enjoys an exceptional weekend in Imola

The Dutchman needed this weekend to kick-start his 2022 season after a shaky start. He was marred by multiple reliability issues as he saw 2 DNFs in the first 3 races. However, all went well for Verstappen this weekend., as he won the Sprint race and then the main race.

Verstappen secured pole on Friday in qualifying and went on to win the sprint race after coming from behind. The race saw him lead from start to end as he comfortably secured the win.

His teammate Sergio Perez also enjoyed a great weekend with a P3 in the sprint and a P2 in the main race. This is a performance that sends the message to Ferrari that Red Bull, after all, is a serious threat.
