Why is Kimi Raikkonen called the Iceman?

Kimi Raikkonen released a book entitled ‘The Unknown Kimi Raikkonen’ wherein he shed some light on why he is so lovingly called the Iceman.

It was reported that Raikkonen mentioned in the book that after an impressive debut season with Sauber, it was Sauber boss, Ron Dennis, who gave him the nickname.

Kari Hotakainen wrote, “It amounts to no more than half of what Kimi is, but defines his professional identity accurately: he comes from a cold climate, drives fast and talks little; he doesn’t explain anything, does his job to the best of his ability, and then moves on to the next race.”

The nickname also fits the Finn’s ice-cool attitude. Moreover, his moments on and off the track wherein he seems to be completely unfazed by any pressure.

The Iceman melts at home

The book also mentioned that Kimi Raikkonen is a very different man at home, as was seen in the video. He would rather be his most animated self and spend his time with his children Robin and Rianna. “I would just like to be there, to be at home,” he said.

“That’s the most important thing, not what I do with the children. We were always together in my family because we were all into motorsports. That’s bound to be one of the reasons I feel like this,” Kimi further added.

Kimi Raikkonen has already proved himself by winning the championship in 2007. At 41, he is the oldest driver on the grid. Kimi is still driving in Formula 1 for his sheer love for the sport. If Kimi decides to drive in the 2021 season, he will most certainly be continuing with Alfa Romeo racing.
