Lando Norris’ biggest rival in F1 today isn’t even a racing driver. Instead, it’s Codemasters’ poor attempt at making a game in F1 2019. As it has done many times in the past, F1 2019 let Lando down one more time at yesterday’s charity stream on Twitch. Except, it happened when 100000 people were watching the Brit ‘try’ to game.

Lando Norris suffers an embarrassing fail

Norris has had numerous issues with the official F1 game. During the Bahrain Virtual Grand Prix, Norris lost connection and couldn’t even compete for the majority of the race. Yesterday, with a sizeable portion of the Twitch population tuning in to watch Lando, the game simply crashed. The disappointment in Norris’ voice was apparent, not mention the huge embarrassment.

Twitch (where Lando streams his games) is currently hosting a fundraiser for charity. The platform allots various gamers a limited time slot on its main channel stream for a small duration of time. When it was Norris’ turn to showcase his talents, F1 2019 decided otherwise.

The game isn’t hugely popular among the drivers and very few actually play it. Red Bull star Max Verstappen has dismissed F1 2019 on multiple occasions and even took a sly dig at the game on Lando’s recent stream.

Fortunately for Lando Norris, all was not lost with Codemasters’ faux pas. The Briton successfully raised over $10,000 while streaming on twitch in the fight against COVID-19. Furthermore, Norris had agreed to shave his head if the target was reached but wisely decided against sacrificing his hair. The Briton’s next target is $15000 as a part of Twitch Stream Aid 2020.

Esports picking up from where F1 left off

Without any real racing, fans can only gain some form of satisfaction through Virtual races and Esports events. Norris and Verstappen are the only two drivers on the grid actively taking part in events and races in the virtual world.

Despite being a full-time F1 driver, Norris has amassed a whopping 325k followers on his Twitch account. As a result, the Briton could become a gamer if things in the F1 world don’t pan out as expected.
