WATCH: Lewis Hamilton Blown away by Fernando Alonso’s Screaming Title Winning Renault V10 in Abu Dhabi

F1 is a sport of passion. Endless hours of training with the fragrance of burned tires and engines whirring past – heaven. Enthusiasts who love the sport, attain a surreal satisfaction from these sensations. In that context, Lewis Hamilton had to stop in the middle of an interview to listen to the sweet sound of the Renault V10 speeding past at the Yas Marina earlier today.

Fernando Alonso is back to F1 after two long years. In his years outside of F1, he won the Le Mans 24 hours and competed in the Indy 500. However, given the new regulations in F1, Alonso has bounced back for his third championship. Looks like Lewis Hamilton will have to keep looking at his rearview mirror next season!

The Abu Dhabi circuit hosts the last race of the season. However, before the race could grab attention, Alonso made it out to the track with his Renault R25; A car from the good old days before the advent of the hybrid engines. It was an emotional moment for many hearing the V10 engine echo through the empty stands.

The sensation roused from the roaring engine would send chills to any driver on the grid. Lewis Hamilton may love his car, the AMG, but he still considers the screaming V10 to be the sweetest sound there is.

“Oh, that sound is just so good. It’s the greatest sound,” remarked Lewis, during an interview.

Lewis Hamilton will have to look out for Alonso

Many pundits consider the hybrid engines to be the end of F1. When they were originally introduced, everyone welcomed them. Yet soon enough it consumed the very spirit of racing, restricting it to a mere sport of money. Well, FIA is working hard to reinstate competition back again, but none can replace the V10s.

Bernie Ecclestone, the then-director of the FIA, recalls his decision to allow the hybrid engines as a mistake. He had the inkling that it would kill the sport and have tried to stop it. However, it was too late; the engine had added pace to the cars already, and that distracted everyone from the fact that it was slowly killing the sport.

Coming back to the present times, Lewis Hamilton may win races with his hybrid-powered engine, but he is still in love with the V10. Every racer that heard the roar of the V10 from Renault would’ve immediately paused their work and savored that moment.

It was definitely a trip down memory lane for Alonso as he took the R25 for a ride at Abu Dhabi. He gears up for the next season to battle it out in the new age of racing with the leaders now. Will it be the best comeback story of the decade, or will it be an immense disappointment? We will have to be patient to find out.
