The 2021 season belonged to one man – Max Verstappen. He helped Red Bull re-ignite their dominance in F1 after a memorable championship win. The Dutchman ended up winning 10 races and bagging 18 podiums in the season. The fierce title championship with Lewis Hamilton was surely an uphill battle, but he came out victorious in the end.

After entering F1 at a pretty young age, the Dutchman stepped up his game pretty quickly after entering the big scene. He started winning races and challenging the title contenders on his better days. However, one thing that kept pulling him down was his aggressive mindset, which was sometimes over the line. There were incidents of his spats with fellow drivers as well, notably with Esteban Ocon in 2018.

Throwback to a heated exchange of Max Verstappen

More recently, ESPN’s F1 page on Instagram shared a video of Max Verstappen from 2018. During a drivers’ interview during the 2018 Canadian GP, a reporter asked Max why he’s involved in so many accidents. To this, he had, as many would label, a rude reply.

The reporter asked, “Max, why you’ve had so many accidents?” The Dutchman hesitated for a bit and then replied. “I don’t know,” he said. “And eh, like I said at the beginning of the press conference, I get tired of all the questions, so… Yeah.”

He took a pause for a second and continued, “If I get a few more, I’ll headbutt someone.”

Notably, Verstappen finished 3rd in that race after an exceptional drive for Red Bull. Now, after this little pinch of nostalgia, we can acknowledge one thing for sure, the Dutchman has come a long way since then. Fans are waiting to see him take the wheel of the all-new 2022 F1 car during the pre-season testing later this month. Can Max Verstappen defend his title in 2022? Tell us your predictions.
