WATCH: McLaren’s Heartful Senna Gesture Towards Ricciardo Almost Leaves Him ‘Sobbing Like a Baby’

Daniel Ricciardo won the Italian Grand Prix last weekend. It was his first win in Formula One since the 2018 Monaco Grand Prix. It was also the first victory for McLaren since 2012 Brazil and the first 1-2 since 2010 Canadian Grand Prix.

The drivers and the team returned to Woking to celebrate the achievement at McLaren Technology Centre. The Aussie driver was over the moon after his victory and got emotional when he kept his trophy in the same cabinet as his idol, Senna.

We’re still kind of bathing in the glory of Monza: Daniel Ricciardo

In the latest video released by the McLaren team on the social media platforms, we can the Aussie driver with his trophy. Daniel pointed out that it was surreal to put his trophy next to his idol.

Alright, so it’s dark. We are pretty much alone at the MTC. We’re still kind of bathing in the glory of Monza and I’ve come to put the girl in her home in one of the many cabinets here.” said Daniel.

” This is kind of crazy and surreal. I mentioned that my trophy would be somewhere next to one of Senna’s and this Senna’s in Adelaide 1993. I was at the race. Pretty damn wild, so I’m nearly speechless. So I’m gonna put it there.

And I’m probably going to walk away before I start sobbing like a baby. So that’s it.” said Ricciardo while putting his trophy at MTC.

The McLaren driver explains why he was a man on a mission at Monza

Daniel Ricciardo was quick throughout the weekend at Monza. He qualified P5 on Friday qualifying just 0.065 behind Verstappen in P3. Then he made an amazing start to move to P3 in Sprint qualifying on Saturday. He started the race in P2 and made another amazing start to take the lead and finished P1.mj

“In Belgium, it already felt better, and that gave us some confidence. From the first free practice at Monza, the car felt good. After qualifying, I was in a dark place. I didn’t want to be here anymore. I wanted to win again and be the man.

That did me good. Relatively for the season, it was a good session, but the winner in me had the burning feeling that it wasn’t enough yet. It’s easy to say now, but from that Friday I was a man on a mission,” said the McLaren driver.

Ricciardo also got the fastest lap on the last lap of the race and gain one more point for him and the team. This was his first podium with the team and also for the 2021 season after a tough start to the season.
