There had been several reports that the world champions Mercedes AMG team had failed their 2022 homologation tests in January. It was reported that they, along with rivals Red Bull, could not pass the FIA tests. But the German team took to social media to poke fun at the reports.

The Mercedes team informed that, contrary to reports, they had passed the homologation tests on 13 January. ” Coming soon. W13 completed full FIA homologation on 13 January.” said the Mercedes team.

The regulations are about twice the size of what’s preceded them: Mercedes F1
As reported by Express. co. UK, Mercedes emphasized the enormity of the rule change in the 2022 season. They revealed the regulation changes are bigger than any previous changes in F1.
“The rule set is not only enormous – the regulations are about twice the size of what’s preceded them – but they’re all almost entirely different from what came before them,” said Mercedes.

“That has meant we’ve had to redesign the car from tip to toe. Everywhere you look, it’s completely new. Not just new as in new parts, but new as in new philosophy, completely new aerodynamic package, different brakes, different wheels, and different tires.

We use our combined wit and skill, and all the effort we make collectively to try to find a configuration of a car that will be better than anyone else’s approach to it. And when everything is as new as this, then everywhere you look in that regulation set – twice as thick as the old one – there is an opportunity and, of course, there’s jeopardy.” said the German team.
The 2022 season will be a substantial challenge for F1 teams and especially big teams as they have to work under a budget cap. But the German team could thrive in the regulations because of their excellent technical background. Let us wait and see what the new Mercedes car looks like.
