

Niki Lauda was one of the brightest racers to have graced the world of F1. His world-class skills and determination were unrivaled and still remain one of the most noteworthy traits of the legend. Now, his former team, McLaren F1, recently honored his legacy in their own unique way.

Sadly, the Austrian passed away on May 20th three years ago. He died in his sleep when he was at the University Hospital of Zürich undergoing dialysis treatment for kidney problems.

Niki Lauda has left a rich legacy behind
Lauda‘s crash left him with severe health issues for life. However, that did not stop him from racing, which remains admirable amongst the racing fraternity. McLaren in a recent post revealed how they’ve chosen to have a Niki Lauda Bronze statue at their Technology Center, on his death anniversary.
In honour of Niki Lauda, who passed away three years ago today, we’ve unveiled a bronze statue which will reside at the McLaren Technology Centre.

The Austrian had won a world championship with the team back in 1984, after a two-year hiatus from F1.

The team has proudly titled the announcement calling Lauda a, “A three-time world champion, and a true legend of our sport, forever missed but always remembered.” Lauda now joins previously unveiled Bronze sculptures of Ayrton Senna and founder Bruce McLaren.

Notably, after tough years with Brabham, many assumed Lauda’s career to be over. In fact, they even presumed the Austrian to have retired from the sport. Not many thought of the driver to make a comeback and win another championship, but Lauda never settled for less.
During the later stages of his career, Niki also donned the cap of a manager at Ferrari, Jaguar, and, most notably, Mercedes. He is widely known to be responsible for luring Lewis Hamilton to the franchise. The rest is history! Clearly, the man was an extremely talented individual who was successful in various ventures in his life.
