The Italian Grand Prix has not even begun but there was already drama galore during qualifying at Monza. At the temple of speed, it seemed as though every team had the exact same idea of getting their drivers out behind a slipstream. As a result, there was a huge traffic jam at the end of Q1. A lot of drivers suffered. But the most high profile casualty was that of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel who bowed out of Q1.

Poor Seb just can’t seem to catch a break. Honestly, how worse can his year actually get? Vettel came out on the softs for his first flying lap. But he didn’t quite have the pace and eventually dropped into the elimination zone.

After coming out with a host of other cars, in an attempt to improve his time, he got stuck behind George Russell. Having not bettered his lap time in the first two sectors, the German just decided to bail out and return to the pits. Understandably, he was fuming at the whole traffic fiasco and the fact that he will start the race in P17!

Vettel’s angry outburst also came at the cost of one of his car components, which he hurled out of the cockpit. It’s safe to say that you wouldn’t want to be anywhere close to Vettel at the moment.

Sebastian Vettel reacts to messy Q1

Soon after abandoning his last Q1 lap, Vettel was heard on the radio saying, “What a mess. Why did the Alfas have to overtake everybody and cause shit! I guess that’s it.”

The incident he was referring to was Kimi Raikkonen overtaking himself and Russell on the out lap. Eventually, even Raikkonen had problems of his own, being blocked by Esteban Ocon, but Vettel was not happy with the antics of his former Ferrari teammate.

And we thought it couldn’t get any worse than Spa. Vettel’s teammate Charles Leclerc only fared marginally better. He will start the race in P13. Already it looks like there will not be any Ferrari car finishing in the top 10 this weekend.

For the safety of the team and its crew, they ought to thank god that this race was behind closed doors. There is no way the Tifosi would have tolerated this shambolic performance.
