Ferrari had a double points finish this weekend in Jeddah, their 16th so far this season. The two drivers were battling it out for a good part of the race. They were involved in a close incident during lap 23. The Spaniard was not happy when his teammate Charles Leclerc overtook him going off-track and he demanded the position back. Eventually, it did happen when Sainz claimed it back in the following laps. Nevertheless, the Monegasque finished ahead of him in P7 after overtaking him again two laps from the end of the race.
Charles Leclerc had a second-row start alongside Max Verstappen but lost positions on lap 10 when he went inside during the safety car. On the other hand, Sainz who started in P15 made a great recovery to finish in 8th position. The two teammates were involved in close battles and Leclerc gained in the end.

Meanwhile, the lap 23 incident was a tough one for Sainz. He overtook Leclerc down the straight but the Monegasque claimed it back going wide around the turn. Sainz was not on-board with this idea. In a radio exchange that followed, he demanded his position back. “Come on Charles, don’t do this. I passed him! Tell him to give me a position immediately. He is gonna get a penalty if not”

The intense fight went under Leclerc’s belt in the end and he says they enjoyed it. “Well Carlos was behind at first, then he overtook me while I was struggling in the first three laps [of the restart] with the hard [tyres] and then I had quite a good pace actually, and managed to overtake him two laps to the end. It was a good battle. We enjoyed it, I think, both of us,” said the Monegasque after the race.

The Red Team has the most double points finish this season. With Mclaren putting up solid performances at the beginning of the season, the fight for “best of the rest” seemed tight at a moment. However, Ferrari has almost claimed that spot with a comfortable lead over the Surrey-based team.
“Now we head to Abu Dhabi with a comfortable lead over McLaren in the fight for third place in the Constructors’ championship, while Charles has moved up to fifth in the Drivers’ standings. We must continue to concentrate and prepare well for one final effort,” said team principal Mattia Binnoto after the race.
