Max Verstappen had a usual FP1 in Spielberg as he had the fastest pace and sat on top of the leader board. The second free practice session, however, pushed the Dutchman back to P3. he faced a couple of issues on the track this time, mostly due to traffic on the Red Bull Ring.

By the time all 20 cars were on the circuit, the traffic was building up on the lap. Verstappen’s key problem, however, lay with Lando Norris.

On top of the rest, Max lowered his benchmark down to 1m 05.239s as he took to the airwaves in exasperation as he got blocked by the McLaren on Turn 3. “I’m not even gonna say what the f*ck happened”.

The winner of last week’s race on the Austrian Hills was outraged at the incident. After his race engineer asks him about what happened, he shouts back: “NO! I’m not gonna f*cking say it, people are blind!”

Lando cannot solely be blamed for Max’s performance today. After a few laps, the session saw the onset of a soft drizzle. It may not be because of the moisture, but sparks are seen flying from the Red Bull as Max drifts wide over the curbs. This may have contributed to the missing numbers that put him in P3.

The British driver believes he can challenge Max Verstappen if he was in a Red Bull. “I believe I can give him a run for his money.” He knows Verstappen has the upper hand when it comes to experience.

Lando Norris has had a great season so far. He is the only driver who has scored points in every race. He has been a star this season, putting in hours of hard work to bring out the best in his McLaren.

What has been a comparatively bad practice session for Max, he still keeps faith in his team. He captions a recent Instagram post saying: “It will be close so we’ll have to keep pushing.”

Like any other race this season, the last leg of the triple-header promises to be an entertaining one. One can only hope that Saturday’s qualifying will provide an eventful trailer to the main event.
