The first practice session of the Hungarian Grand Prix was underway until Yuki Tsunoda crashed his AlphaTauri heading into turn 4. The Japanese rookie was zipping around the Hungaroring but soon lost control of it, which sent him backward into the barrier.

Tsunoda walked out of the accident uninjured but was surely disappointed in having to end his first session in that manner. The rookie must be crossing his fingers he heads back to the team’s garage hoping there isn’t significant damage done to his car.

Tsunoda red flags FP1 with a major crash

As the 22-year-old was driving around the Hungaroring, trying to set in the best laps possible. The rookie lost control of his car and headed towards the barrier, which completely ruined the Alpha Tauri.

The damage was so severe that, the session had to be red-flagged, as they had to pick up the stranded Alpha Tauri and take it back to the garage, as they will need to fix it before they go out for FP2 later in the evening.

This isn’t the first time that the rookie driver had such an accident. He found himself in a similar position back at the French Grand Prix at Paul Ricard, his car went backward into the barrier, which completely ruined his gearbox.

The Japanese driver is hoping to come back stronger for the second session later in the day, and will aim to minimize the mistakes as he zips around the track, hoping to get the best result possible for this weekend.
