We are all aware of the kerfuffle between Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. The world champion disobeyed team orders to give his position to his teammate. This hampered Perez’s position in the championship standings and earned Verstappen plenty of backlash on social media. However, the Dutchman has found some support and “respect” post his actions in Brazil.
Speaking on the In the Fast Lane podcast, David Coulthard was asked for his opinion about the incident in Brazil. The former driver and race winner had an interesting reply.

Before sharing his opinion, Coulthard made it clear he isn’t fully aware of the internal situation. “What I respect is consistent behavior. Whether that’s someone consistently upsetting you or whether that’s someone consistently just doing what they’re saying they’ll do. At least you know where you stand with that,” said the Scot.
“But then points are important, especially when it comes to the driver’s championship in which Checo is trying to secure second for the team. Does it actually, fundamentally get you anything other than history books? No, it doesn’t! Is the relationship now all broken and everything is going to spiral out of control? No! You know, we have very short memories in sport,” he added.
Coulthard, in Verstappen‘s defense, said, “Max clearly has his feelings on that particular request and there’s a backstory and if we find out in time, then some people will go well we still don’t agree with it but now I understand.”

Not just speaking in support of Verstappen, the former driver believes the ill feelings from the incident will not linger. He also believes they would have resolved the issue in Brazil.
“I doubt very much that this is going to linger within the team. It would’ve been dealt with, discussed and they would’ve moved on before they left Brazil,” he attested.
