Things got pretty heated toward the end of the Brazilian GP last week. While Mercedes claimed a shocking 1-2, the more surprising aspect was the drama that unfolded in the Red Bull camp. Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc are fighting for P2 in the driver’s championship. Max Verstappen, who was ahead of Checo, was told to swap positions with the Mexican. However, he publicly ignored the team’s orders, much to the agony of many fans.

Going into the race in Abu Dhabi, both Perez and Leclerc are level on points in the second position. This means Checo has to outscore the Monegasque if he’s to clinch a first-ever Red Bull 1-2 in the WDC. Leclerc will finish P2 in the standings if both the drivers end up with the same points as he has won more races than the Mexican.

Red Bull have clearly stated that helping Perez finish P2 is their priority after securing both championships. Despite last week’s unfortunate incident, Helmut Marko has said that Max Verstappen will help Sergio in any way he can in his fight for P2.

Marko said, “No [detained need to speak with authority to Max], we said that it’s about getting the best for the team and what has to be done will be done. I think the first step in quali will be to give Checo a tow. We need everything to work, the will is there.”

“Obviously F1, it’s a very emotional sport,” Perez told the TV media, as quoted by Motorsport.com. He also added, “And there is no other sport where you can speak yourself live, and it’s only in F1 this happens. So there’s a lot of emotions going on in a lot of things to say.”
