Lewis Hamilton is known the world over for his achievements in Formula One. He has made a name for himself in the sport since entering the sport in 2007. Since then, he has 7 world championships and claimed 103 wins and 103 pole positions to his name.

He has several records and dominated the sport from 2014 to 2021. But there is one particular record he owns since he first started racing at the pinnacle of motorsport. Hamilton is the only black in the sport and remains so to date.

Hamilton was born to a white mother and black father, which makes him of mixed race. The Mercedes driver is quite outspoken about the bullying he experienced in his childhood because of the color of his skin. He also mentioned that it was quite difficult for him to break into a white-dominated sport in his early years.

“I got in a car and I was the only kid of color on the track. And I’d be getting pushed around. But then I could always turn their energy against them. I’d out-trick them, outsmart them, outwit them, and beat them, and that, for me, was more powerful than any words,” said Hamilton.

The Mercedes driver has been quite vocal about having more inclusivity in the sport. He believes that it is his purpose to have more drivers of color on the grid other than him.

“Over time, I’ve been trying to figure out my purpose. There’s got to be a reason that I’m not only the only Black driver, but the one at the front. And it’s not just about winning.”
