When will F1 resume after the summer break?

The summer break is such an important aspect that the FIA regulates it under Article 21.8. The rule states, “All competitors must observe a shutdown period of fourteen (14) consecutive days during the months of July and/or August.”

Although all teams are required to take a mandatory 14-day break, not all teams use a similar window. However, that aspect does not affect the restart as racing will resume from the last weekend of August. In 2022, August 26-28 will be the Belgian GP weekend that will mark the start of the second half.

What happens during the summer break?

The FIA introduced the mandatory summer break after a calendar started hosting 20 races a season, which ensures a few things. The FIA regulates the summer break so that no team can gain a competitive advantage.

During the 14-day period, background work is restricted to essentials to ensure only maintenance. During this period, teams cannot work on the car in terms of design, development, or production. The FIA permits damage repair work if a car picks up any at the last race before the break.

Apart from the technical aspect, the human aspect is also a factor in the summer break. After continuously hustling for several months, the summer break is the only time for teams to detach and regroup before the second half.
