Which Formula 1 Driver Was Mugged at Wembley?

Formula 1 is one of the most glamorous and prestigious sports in the world. Think about it, of over 7 billion people in the world, only 20 are F1 drivers. But we shouldn’t forget that F1 drivers are normal people like us too. They do and experience normal everyday things, like taking out their dog on a walk, cycling down the road, stubbing their toe on a table, or getting mugged.

Yes, even F1 drivers aren’t immune to crime. Just ask McLaren driver Lando Norris.

In the summer of 2021, the Briton went to the Euro 2020 final at Wembley in London. And after the game, in which Italy defeated England, as he was going back home, Norris was mugged and lost his incredibly rare and expensive Richard Mille watch.

In a statement, police said of Norris and this incident, “He was approached by two men who engaged him in conversation.” “A short time later he was assaulted and held by one of the men while his watch was removed from his wrist,” the statement continued.

“The victim was understandably shaken but did not sustain any lasting injuries.”

How did Lando Norris and Formula 1 react to this news?

After the incident, F1 released a statement that read, “McLaren Racing can confirm that Lando Norris was involved in an incident, after the Euro 2020 final match at Wembley, during which the watch he was wearing was taken.”

And Lando Norris, who was also naturally “shaken” after being mugged, expressed the scary feeling it left him with. “The difficult thing is the shock of realising it can happen to anyone including yourself when you never think it will happen to you, or it’s a very slim chance,” he said.

“The shock that you can still be vulnerable in any position, it’s a scary thing and I don’t wish it on anyone.”

So far, Lando Norris’ watch hasn’t been found yet. But that’s something he, or anybody for that matter, wouldn’t care about. We’re all glad that the young F1 star was safe.

But it has to be admitted, although unfortunate and unasked for, it was a hell of a way for a celebrity to become relatable to normal people.
