The 2020 F1 season is set to begin in July. Meanwhile, 6-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton has kept himself busy on social media as an activist. In the past couple of weeks, Lewis has campaigned against racism on his social media accounts. He has launched rants demanding justice for George Floyd and also has called out the F1 paddock for being quiet over the matter. Since then a number of Hamilton’s fellow drivers have thrown their support behind the ‘black lives matter’ movement.

The George Floyd case has motivated the whole world against racism. Yesterday in Bristol, UK anti-racism protestors took down a statue that commemorated a slave trader, Edward Colston. Lewis commented on the matter via a social media post. He said, “Slave trader Edward Colston statue pulled down! Our country honored a man who sold African slaves! All statues of racist men who made money from selling a human being should be torn down! Which one is next?”

Lewis Hamilton is setting an example of how a celebrity can change the world using his influence. Regarding these matters, Lewis has been outspoken for a long time now. He himself has been a victim of racial abuse in the past. Infamously, Hamilton faced abuse by Spanish spectators in pre-season testing at Barcelona in 2008. The spectators colored their faces black and also wore wigs and a t-shirt that said ‘Hamilton’s family.’

Lewis Hamilton’s focus will soon shift to F1 as the season is all set to get underway on the 5th of July in Austria. Hamilton will want to add his 7th world title, which will equal the record set by Michael Schumacher.
