In the long-standing history of F1, the engines have undergone serious evolution through the seasons. The latest V6 turbo engine replaced V-8 and V-10 engines in 2014. And the Mercedes F1 team has dominated the scene like no other team in the last 8 years. From 2014 to the end of 2020, the team scored 102 race wins, a winning percentage of over 70%.
Does this make Mercedes the most successful engine supplier in F1 history? The answer is no. The most successful engine suppliers in the history of the sport are Ferrari. Meanwhile, Mercedes have clinched the 2nd spot.
Ferrari is one of the oldest F1 teams with an impeccable record in the last 5 decades. Legends like Juan Manuel Fangio, Michael Schumacher, and Kimi Raikkonen have graced the team with their presence behind the wheel. Meanwhile, Mercedes F1 has been home to two world champions over the last decade, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

Ferrari vs Mercedes F1 engine
The 2021 F1 season was the most exciting title battle we have seen in a long time. Red Bull and Mercedes dominated the grid but several mid-field battles were no less intense. During the 2021 season, the Mercedes engine powered Aston Martin, Williams, and McLaren. Meanwhile, Ferrari were engine suppliers to Alfa Romeo and Haas F1.
Though Mercedes have had a better run this season, the Ferrari engine has powered more wins in terms of overall records. In a 72 year history of F1, Ferrari has won 239 Grand Prix as engine suppliers while Mercedes stand 2nd with 212 wins. Although away from the sport for a while now, Ford Cosworth have bagged the 3rd sport with 176 wins.

Honda and Renault are other successful engine suppliers in F1, but they are still far from matching the top guns. With Honda leaving the sport, Red Bull have taken over their engine needs for 2022.
