The 2022 Formula One season is almost here and one can sense the twists and turns that the next ten months have to offer. Some teams are likely to fall apart while some are likely to excel and the answer is just over a month away at the Bahrain Grand Prix. And of course, much like most of the hybrid era, Mercedes stand tall as the title favorites.

However, Mercedes’ chief technical officer, James Allison, in a recent video, openly admitted that even for a team as dominant as Mercedes, disappointments are imminent. The Briton reckoned that, by the start of the 2022 season, all of the teams would realize they have room for improvement by looking at their respective rivals’ designs.

Hence, there are likely to be quite a lot of regrets followed by a visible urgency to clone and implement such ideas into their cars.

What did the Mercedes engineer say?

During the 2022 F1 season preview, Allison admitted that most of the teams would be scrambling for extra pace following the opening race weekend in Bahrain.

I would imagine that all of us to some degree will have will have left things on the table that we just didn’t anticipate. And we will look at other cars and think ‘oh, why didn’t we think of that?’” he said according to Motorsport.

Then we’ll be scrambling around to try to get that idea onto our car as fast as possible, so that we can claw our way, from whatever position we land in that first race, forwards. Or, if we’re lucky enough to be in front, to keep the attacking wolves behind us,” he added.

It’s going to be quite a rush and definitely something that’s going to keep us all from having too much sleep for the whole of the season,” Allison concluded.
